Comment
Sodium acetate is widely used in combination with ethanol to precipitate nucleic acids. A 3 M sodium acetate solution (pH 5.5) is used as a stock solution. To precipitate nucleic acids, this stock solution is mixed with the DNA solution in the ratio 1:10 (final concentration 0.3 M). For designated uses other salts like potassium acetate (A1498), ammonium acetate (A1030) or lithium chloride (A0985) should be preferrred (1).
